New to Toontown Archive, or stuck on something? Start here -- and if you can't find the answer, the Toons on our Discord are always happy to lend a hand.
Four steps and you're in Toontown:
Toon Tip: your account works on every one of our servers -- you don't need to sign up again to try a different year.
Each of our servers is Toontown at a different point in its history, so the one you pick decides which content you'll find. Muffin is the 2001 beta; Cupcake is the July 2003 launch, before any Cog HQ existed; Cream Pie adds Sellbot HQ; Safe adds Cashbot HQ and Doodles; and Storm Cloud adds Lawbot HQ.
There's no wrong choice, and nothing stops you playing several. If you're not sure, start with Cupcake -- it's Toontown as most Toons remember it.
Fond of a Toon on one server and curious about the next? See ToonTransfer below.
ToonTransfer sends a Toon forward through the years, from an earlier server into a later one -- so the Toon you've grown attached to doesn't have to stay behind when you fancy a different era.
Strictly speaking, your Toon doesn't leave at all. The original stays exactly where they were, going about their business in their own year, and a copy steps out into the later one. Your Toon ends up in two eras at once ... which is the sort of thing only a Toon could manage.
Every Toon gets one trip forward, and you choose where they land. It doesn't have to be the very next server along -- a Cupcake Toon can go straight to Storm Cloud if 2006 is the year you fancy.
Once a Toon has made that trip, though, they've made it: that same Cupcake Toon can't be sent anywhere else afterwards. The copy who arrives is a new Toon with a trip of their own, so they can carry on to a later server from there. You just can't send one Toon to two different servers.

Journeys always run left to right -- forward through the years, never back. You don't have to stop at every year along the way.
Every server gives you six Toon slots. When you send a Toon on, you choose which slot on the destination server they arrive in -- it just has to be an empty one, so make room first if all six are full. Never played the destination server before? Not to worry, your account there is set up as part of the trip.
There's no limit on how many of your Toons can make the trip -- send the whole family if you like.
Anything your Toon carries with them makes the journey:
Your Doodle and your Estate stay behind. A house can't very well be packed into a suitcase, and your Doodle is perfectly happy in the garden where they are.
Toon Tip: because a transfer copies rather than moves, the Toon you started with is still right where you left them -- Doodle, Estate and all. Pop back and visit any time!
ToonTransfer lives in the launcher, on Windows only for the moment. A version you can run straight from this website, with nothing to download, is on the way. Stay Tooned!
Our launcher keeps your game files up to date and lets you pick which server to play. Grab it from the download page:
Each platform's page lists its full system requirements, along with pictures of the install steps.
Muffin, our 2001 server, can be played straight from this website with no download at all -- just log in first. Every other server needs the launcher.
You can log in with either your username or your email address, whichever you remember first. Too many wrong passwords in a row will lock the account for a little while -- that's there to keep other people out of it, so just wait a few minutes and try again.
Use forgot password and we'll email you a reset link. If you're already logged in you can change your password from your profile instead.
Your email address can be changed from your profile page. Usernames are permanent once the account is made, so choose one you'll still like in a few years.
You can review recent sign-ins on your login history page. If you spot something you don't recognize, change your password and let us know.
Never give out personal information such as your real name, address or phone number, and always keep your password safe -- even from your friends! No one from Toontown Archive will ever ask you for it. If you're unsure about a situation, grab a parent for help. Remember: a safe Toon is a happy Toon!
We keep our rule book short enough to read between Trolley rides. Here it is, all three of them:
Don't cheat, and don't play on a modified game client -- no altered game files, no tools that change how the game behaves, nothing that hands you an advantage the Toon standing next to you doesn't have. It isn't that we enjoy saying no: cheating spoils the fun for everyone else on the street, and every hour we spend cleaning up after it is an hour we aren't spending on something new.
Outside of that, play however suits you. Share an account with your sister, run a few Toons at once, keep whatever else you like running alongside the game -- none of it troubles us one bit, so long as the game's own code goes untouched.
Every new name gets a quick look from us before it goes up in lights, but we're a soft touch. Name yourself after your favorite band, a film star, or the cereal you had for breakfast -- we've seen sillier, and we've approved sillier. The only ones we send back are names that are plainly offensive, or borrowed from a real-world figure the world would rather forget. As for length and word count, the game sorts that out for you before you ever hit the button.
Toontown Archive runs on SpeedChat, and only SpeedChat -- there's no SpeedChat Plus here. Every Toon starts out talking in menu phrases, which is plenty for taking back a Cog building. Anything beyond that happens between True Friends: swap a True Friend code with another Toon and you've both opted in.
Toon Tip: because open chat is something you opt into, there's no chat moderation sitting behind it. Only swap True Friend codes with Toons you actually know and trust, and keep the personal details to yourself -- see keeping your account safe above.
If your question isn't answered here, come and find us -- we'd much rather hear from you than have you stuck outside the gates.
Whatever's gone wrong, don't sit there stuck -- there's a whole town of Toons happy to help you sort it out. See you in Toontown!
